Injectable Platelet-Rich Fibrin (i-PRF): An Innovative Solution for Tissue Regeneration and Healing
i-PRF stands for injectable platelet rich fibrin. It is a unique technique that uses the patient’s own blood plasma for rejuvenation. Blood plasma is enriched with platelets (a source of healing proteins and growth factors), fibrins (the wound healing and regeneration matrix) and stem cells (the conductors of our body’s own healing and regeneration modules).
PRF is injected directly into the areas of concern via a thin needle (similar to Mesotherapy), which activates accelerated healing and regeneration. New fibroblasts, collagen and elastin tissues are formed following injection which improves skin elasticity and complexion.
i-PRF has a gentle and gradual effect, but is long-lasting.
How is i-PRF treatment performed?
A sample of blood is collected from the patients arm.
Your blood sample is spun in a centrifuge to separate platelets/fibrin.
The platelet rich fibrin is extracted from the test tube.
It is injected into the patient where required.
What can i-PRF treat?
Scarring
Stretch marks
Hair loss/thinning
Acne
Skin rejuvenation
Joint and soft tissue disorders such as tennis elbow and plantar fasciitis
Are there any side effects of i-PRF?
Because i-PRF uses your own blood cells, the risks of adverse reaction or complication are extremely low. Some patients may experience bruising at the injection site, but this should subside quickly.
How soon will I notice results?
Changes begin in a matter of hours. For injections to joints, improvements are expected to start within weeks. Results can vary, in part due to the number and quality of platelets in the patient’s blood.
How long do the results last?
Results are dependent on medical and lifestyle factors, but usually last between 18 months and 2 years, although this can vary between treatment areas. General consensus recommends a top-up treatment after 12months year.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments required will be based upon the area to be treated and the severity of the concern. Some problems may need between 3 and 5 sessions at 4-6 week intervals. Joint injections are a single treatment which can be repeated after 3 months.
Are there any reasons I can't have i-PRF?
If any of the following situations or health conditions apply to you, you would not be suitable for this treatment.
Pregnant or breast-feeding
Undergoing anticoagulant therapy, such as warfarin
Any medical condition having a significant effect on platelet function
Haemodynamic instability
Sepsis
Acute or chronic infections
